"To Make Man Whole"

History

Giving Tree Medical Charity is a San Diego-based medical ministry that began in 2015 as a way of life – a small seed planted on the island of Dominica. Studying medicine while surrounded by unmet local healthcare needs, the founders of Giving Tree began to find ways of using what they already knew to provide care for local food shop owners, housekeepers, and homes for the aged. On a small scale, needs were assessed, equipment was gathered, and people were served.

Fellow teammates were then brought on board and trained to expand the care. As the founders gained medical and relational understanding, as well as experience with medical imaging, procedures, and teaching, they found they finally had something more to offer the marginalized communities they had built relationships with over the years both in the U.S. and internationally.

Since then, the founders have been able to see the direct impact of similar services on the health and wellbeing of Vietnamese and Hispanic communities in Escondido, California, as well as in Elejido Erendira in rural Baja California, Mexico. As they shared what they were doing with others, they found that many companies and individuals had more to give.

Valuable contributions have now grown the capacity of these services and allowed the seed to bud into the beginnings of the Giving Tree Medical Charity – a group of people and organizations from a variety of backgrounds and specialties working together to bridge the gap between unused resources and the people who need them. As we work to connect unused resources with the under-served populations that need them, we believe that something strong, united, and beautiful will grow: A Giving Tree.

We would count it an honor to partner with you, experiencing the joy of growing in giving together.

Vision

Our short term vision is to organize interim medial service opportunities in six foundational communities: Escondido, California; Erendira, Mexico; Palawan, Philippines; various locations in Vietnam; and Hunan, China.

Our long-distance vision is to build on the foundational relationships with these communities in need and with sources of high-quality medical resources, bringing them together to create clinics in each area where local people will be trained and equipped to care for the major health issues in their own areas. Our desire is that when we leave each community, new healthcare leaders and teams will be prepared to provide care independently, rather than living in dependence on the next temporary medical aid team to arrive.

Our extended goal is to train these local clinic leaders to educate other neighboring communities about what they themselves have learned. We envision communities doing what we have done: Receiving service, learning how to serve, and then learning to how teach. This way, people in need will receive the highest level of care possible for each given community, tailored to their specific needs, in their own language, with their sustainable manpower, supported by this international network of resources, and limited not by an outside voice but only by their own imaginations.

The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me. Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up they bed, and walk. And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked.
